Overhauling

So I have a blown 95 4.3 Vortec I plan on rebuilding and overhauling. Im going to have it overbored .030 over for a start. What else can I do? I plan on adding a turbo (maybe two) so what kind of intake mods will I have to do (as far as gaskets and injectors) because I'm not sure sure what is compatible with the CPI system, if anything... Going to make custom headers. Can a marine intake fit on this engine without doing anything to the heads? Thats all top end stuff, what can I do for bottom end? New/better crankshaft? I heard that the crankshafts in the full size silverados with the 4.3 were bigger, can I put one of those in? All opinions and advice would be great! This wont be a budget build, so no concern there.

Thanks again!

If you're going turbo I'd highly reccomend upgraded valves with dual coil springs and roller lifters/rockers.

I don't know the 4.3l very well, but it's essentially a 5.7 V8 without the front 2 cyl, and I know the 5.7 very well. If you're gonna run high boost pressure or twist it into the 5-6000rpm range a lot I'd find out if you can get a forged steel crank and rods. I've had good luck with KB silv-o-lite pistons and they're very cost effective.

I have no idea what I'll be using this motor for lol, just doing it because. Know any specific head parts and where I can get them?

It's my understanding that 350 Chevy parts all fit in this motor, obviously excepting the cam/crank etc. Worst case scenario you can buy pieces individually or just get V8 kits.

I'd imagine the crank will probably be the hardest to find.

Not much you can do since its cpi. Not really much out there when it comes to increasing fuel etc. Now,if you go carb, and ditch the cpi, then you can go as far as your wallet can get you.

Yeah, I was thinkin about going carb but idk how turbos work with them. What kind of kits can I get that will be good enough? Any parts I can take off the marine version of this motor if compatable?

Well, before we get into that stuff, what are you going to do about the transmission? It runs off the computer. without the tps,it wont shift. You can buy a transmission computer control, but they are $500+. Your gonna have to go old school (350 turbo etc) if you dont wanna dish out some made cash.

Jimmy_Blazer 08-03-2013 10:14 PM

Yeah I'll probably hook it up to a 350 turbo or 700r4, or something manual even...

Is it possible to put a 96+ intake on it (change the heads??) or a marine intake on it?
