performance chip

I want to get a performance chip for my 2002 s10 blazer it is a vortec v6. I am looking for something to improve gas milage and add horsepower. My son says I should just get a tuner, but I dont know much about that. Also he recommend that I get a cold air intake filter. what is everyones thoughts on this and is there any other mods I can make to improve performance?

From what I've read, most performance programmers don't do much in the way of power increases on the 4.3L. I know my hypertech didn't, but it made the transmission shift way better and corrected the speedo for my taller tires and different gears. I'm just in the process of testing the premium fuel performance tune. I read one guy's experience a while back that had access to a dyno that picked up 15hp with premium fuel and tune over stock and regular fuel. My butt dyno says the Blazer is peppier, but I'm more interested in if it changes my economy versus regular fuel and tune.

I just bought a $38 cold air intake off eBay and installed it a few days ago. It really makes a difference as far as performance and MPG. I'd say I've gained 10hp and at least 3 more MPG. Sounds cool too. The brand I bought is CHROME INTAKES. The only down side to chrome is the heat from the engine ends up warming the intake after long drives, going to figure out a filter box and heat shield. Well worth the $38 though!
