Planning ahead?

My 1999 s10 blazer (2wd 4door LT) is hoping for a performance upgrade soon, once i get a job... lol. I mainly want to increase fuel economy and horsepower, but nothing too drastic, i want to start 'small'. i'm thinking starting with either the airfilter/intake, or exhaust, but i don't know what would be the best 'bang for my buck' so to speak as far as brands or upgrades in general (i'm struggling to find mpg/horsepower data when doing research)

any advice, tips, or leads would be great!

btw, is there anything i can do in the meantime that's at little to no cost to help my blazer perform better? lol, thanks!

Don't know about the first part, but to get all you can for cheap...

clean egr and replace seal $2
replace pcv valve $2.50
grab a bottle of fuel system cleaner $3-6
make sure tires are inflated properly
clean or replace air filter

i'm a noob when it comes to part abbreviations... what is an egr and a pcv? lol, i'm learning, but it comes slow to me

EGR is your exhaust gas recircuation valve. Basically, it feeds exhaust fumes into the intake, reducing compresssion chamber temperatures, therefore, reducing NoX (helps with emissions)

PCV is positive crankcase ventalation. It helps reduce vapours from forming deposits, and removes moisture from the crankcase.

PCV should be driverside rear valve cover, EGR is on the front of the engine, between the valve covers. Looks like a cylinder with 2 size 10 I beleive bolts holding er on. There' electrical connections on the top.

There are tutorials on the site about how to remove and clean the EGR.

Also clean the MAF sensor...(mass air flow)

My blazer doesnt apparently have a PCV... lol, it also doesnt help when dad starts telling me how bad modifications are because "this is the way the factory sent it out" so you shouldnt change it... ugh

That's why I LOVE knowing more about cars than my dad. All he does is say "whatcha doin today?" and I say something and have to explain it all. :icon_razz:
