roller rockers?

okay so im looking for every little bit of power i can get out of my 4.3. I have read bout roller rockers and read that 2000+ have roller rocker while pre 2000 have stamper steel. What i was wondering was what ratio are the stock and what ratio could i substitute without changing anything else. it was suggested to use 1.6? what do you guys thinks? worth the 150.00$? I would like a cam but dont really wanna pull apart my new motor (which i just payed off). If i under stand right a bigger ratio would allow my truck to breathe more?? something like a cam? Please correct me if im wrong, just wondering how to add a few more ponies :)

Been covered... CLICK HERE - just read the linked to reply in that thread. No need to get all caught up in the drivel that was ivannj.

I would not try to go with the stock 2000+ roller rockers as they were a roller trunnion only. Stock ratio is 1.5. Going to 1.6 will gain some lift, but not duration. Duration or area under the curve is where you really gain. With higher ratio rockers, you may end up with valve float, but unless you have raised your shift points and/or modified the max engine RPM, should be ok in that regard.

A cam would be a much better choice, IMO.

yea a cam REALLY would be better but thats a lot of work. i was looking for simple "bolt ons" for now. Im moving to AZ soon and once i get out of MI below zero weather than its on.

Just out of curiosity...and this may be due to the difference in engines, I have a 305 4bbl, but why the preoccupation with hp when, as I understand it low to mid-range torque would increase performance in a more noticeable way?

i've owned the truck now for 4 years. and after replacing literally EVERYTHING lol, i would like a little more power. i know these V6's don't have much to offer but im gonna try to get it all. i just ordered a custom tuned PCM so well see what that does.
