Stock 2.8 vs 3.4 should I swap
Hi, I am new to Blazer Forum. I recently purchased an 87 2dr 4wd Blazer. The body and frame are in great shape but it has been neglected for some time.
I am in the process of fixing it up. I rebuilt the transmission, transfercase and would like to rebuild the engine. I am not looking to drop a V8 into it. I have an 88 s10 short box for that. I am looking for more of a dd with some reasonable performance mods, good sound and maybe an ever so slight lope. My question is; should I rebuild the 2.8 or go to a 3.4? I already know the 3.4 is a better choice but I have an extra 2.8 just sitting there. Input, opinions and advice welcomed. Thanks, Jim |
You could stroke the extra 2.8 to 3.1 by swapping crankshafts. The 3.1 crank out of a mini van is stronger than one from a passenger car. There's a casting number to tell them apart. 3.1 rated fuel injectors and some cam research should get what you want out of the 2.8 leaving more money for your 88 short box project.

I like that idea Rusty, thanks for the input.
