v8 swap
ive been thinking about swapping my 4.3 v6 with a 4.8 v8 on my 2000 blazer 2wd. will the original tranny and rearend work? what about the wiring harness?

Please do a search on here and google. There is more info out there about these swaps than you will ever be able to read!
|
Why a 4.8? Why all that work for only 30 cu. in more displacement? At least throw a 5.3, if you want a late model engine!
|
Dimensionally they are the same so as Red said find the 5.3 and make the nightmare a tad more worth it! You really need a donor truck to take what you need from and it's quite a lot.
|
Why not just do the typical 5.7 vortec swap that is proven, reliable, rather easy, and makes good power and gets better mpg than the 4.3:)
|
The 4.6 may only be 30 ci larger but it makes more power.Although it would be a complicated swap. You pretty much need the entire drive train plus electronics., minus the driveshaft and rearend.

Trans will work. LSx style motor dont have the 12 and 1 oclock bolts on block but the rest hold it on fine. to use stock trans you need flywheel spacer. Stock rear depends on your foot.
5.7 is easy to do, LSx alot more work. I did em both, although my swaps will always be a touch easier with no ifs in my way, 5.3 was worth the hassle!! Either prepare to drop bout $800 on having someone do your wiring harness, or bout $300 on aspirin/liquor doin it yourself. ;) |

Id love to do it but in scared of the wiring lol. For my question and for info the op can use,can the stock oil pan on the 5.3 work on ours? as long as its 2wd ofcourse. i heard something about people using the pans from hummers. |
