Those are clear... 'least looking at the plastic grills.. I'm guessing debri sometimes goes through those and gets in there and gets clogged... could it be smaller debris getting plugged in the fins...

they also make a door panel peg pullin' tool... (Man that's a mouth full) it's looks kinda like a little prybar but it has a notch cut in it to slip around the peg so ya don't tear up the door panel...

All the vacuum system does is control what's engaging the 4wd it is a "true 4wd" system as you called it... you're just not usin' a shifter... you're pushin' a button that's opening a solenoid to...

well.. a fuse isn't to protect reverse polarity it's to protect from too much current... now if they put what's called a crowbar circuit in the ECU you'll be fine.. that's meant for protecting...
