Just bought this 2002 "xtremely sad" Blazer shifts out of 2nd but doesn't hit 3rd

Just bought. Check engine light is on. 250,xxx odometer.Shifts out of 2nd but wont shift into 3rd. Just goes into neutral and the RPMs go high. Does it in 2hi and 4hi (assuming the same for 4lo)....
