Short life of alternators on GM vehicles usually indicates a failed belt tensioner. Replace the alternator, belt tensioner, and belt together.

This problem can be electrical or mechanical. One easy trick is to rap on the starter solenoid, because they can get stuck. Use a small hammer and only hit it hard enough to un-stick the solenoid....
