The problem ended up being the steering shaft...

The problem ended up being the steering shaft coupler at the base of the steering shaft, the rubber was so worn that it would allow that shaft to turn a 1/4 turn before engaging the gear box... $20...

no, unfortunately the kid didnt have insurance... idler arm was post wreck, tie rod ends were pre... guess Im going to have to just replace all the parts and have it re-aligned...

I dont know about the tune up, the plugs and wires look fairly new - not OEM anyway.... lol new air filter, can I get the code even when the light is off ? the only time it comes on is at 70 + MPH on...

ironically this same thing happened to me today... I had just replaced the heater core and all the hoses BUT this one, one look at it and I didnt want to mess with it BUT last night the rubber hose...
