Yes. Fuel pumps that don't hold pressure cause problems with driveability. An inline check valve provides an extra layer of security.

If you are going to do it, do it right.

An actron code scout will do the trick nicely if you have the GM specific cable. I upgraded to a Mastertech and have my older tech1A in a box. Both work great.

Flipping through my factory service manual;

Check your 8th digit VIN or check your RPO codes and look for either a L34 or LB4. it is most likely a "Z" or LB4 indicating a VCM controlled system...

Try the fuel injector test.

The FSM recommends a lot of tests, After you check the plugs and wires, do the fuel injector test, then a compression test. The more you eliminate, the closer to the problem you get.
