The hubs contain the bearings and sensor all as one unit. You replace the entire hub assembly at once and you solve bad hub and bad sensor issues. My light still stays on, but I haven't had a chance...

Why does the overhead console have anything to do with the stereo? I'm not too familiar with anything pre-98, but none of the gen 2's that I know of require anything like what you are describing.

Go to a GM dealership and have them hook it up to the ABS programmer. They can tell you what the light is for and reset the codes if need be.
