Maybe an exhaust leak at the donut gasket, the Y pipe that bolts upto the rest of the exhaust. Mine has leaked there and will give a false pinging or knocking sound.

I replaced mine about a year ago on my 94 s10...

I replaced mine about a year ago on my 94 s10 blazer, took me about 45 minutes. When mine went up it threw antifreeze all over the inside of the windshield cause the defroster was on, what a mess.
