Top end gasket replacement

Hi all. I'm new here to this forum and thought I would chime in with my current project.
We have a 2004 GMC Jimmy ZR2. This is a Canadian only model. We gave the vehicle to our daughter last year....

If it is the 4.3L then I would look for sludge in...

If it is the 4.3L then I would look for sludge in the oil.
Either change the oil and look for it to gloop out at times or remove the valve covers and look for sludge build up in the valve covers. ...
