so I took the time to Mock up make and mount a bracket to the motor mount from the small starter bolt and still grinding/ chuncking and not starting. what Am i missing.

Even with no shims. That's the funny part the bolt wasn't broken. The bolt hole on the block was.
Every thing I read says a 98 starter can work on a 97-99 4.3 motor and some even work for a 96 motor...
