Have you checked all the other bulbs that run off the same fuse? I think the cargo lamp, glove box lamp, visor mirror lamps, and some others get power from that fuse.

I think the light sensor had a diode in it. Maybe try installing a diode in series with your resistor. Try it both ways to before soldering/crimping it in place (diodes are directional).
