i think the MAF sensor has to have airflow or the engine will die. you will probably have to take off the throttle body and clean it that way.

i would check it, its very cheap to get a tester. i know the poppet valves off the spider have to have a certain PSI to work properly. im guessing since its not running thats why you have no codes....

sounds like you have a leak or something is sucking air thats not supposed to. try another intake or buy a cheap cold air kit and see if that remedies it.

i dont think so, seems like you would have a alot of other problems. mass airflow sensor sounds more logical to me but i am a novice. its easy to do. be sure to get Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaner....

you could disconnect the battery and reset the computer and see if the light comes on again and then try the OBD2 reader. an arching plug wire could explain the surging.

i like Castrol, lately Ive been using 4 quarts of oil and a 1/2 quart of Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. It worked great at cold starts. I use ACDelco oil filter PF52.

my truck had 86000 miles and had to have the distributor gear replaced after a tune up didnt cure a p0300. it was only slightly worn, but while you have it off and out might as well throw a new gear...
