Thought you guys might appreciate this In The Paddock video featuring the nicest K5 Blazer I've seen. Walk through of the build and has action from an autocross lap.

That’s cool, and different for sure. What class did they have him run in?

Years ago I autocrossed an engine swapped Vega, and the SCCA region I raced in placed me in E-Modified class. It was fun, but no competition since no one else had an engine swapped car.

Btw, the fastest time-of-day cars at that time were the 914 flat sixes :D

This wasn't at an SCCA event. The Optima Ultimate Street Car series only has 6 classes. The Blazer was running in the GTV, or "vintage" class. Any car that is 1989 or older and weights 3,200 lbs or more can run in vintage. A nicely equipped Blazer like this one isn't the car to have if you only care about winning but the owner was having an absolute blast.

Emod for a simple engine swapped Vega would be tough if there were serious e-mod cars built running with you. The E-mod champion in almost every year for the last 10 years runs in a region near me and that thing is the fastest car on an autocross course in California.

Lol, there's no doubt I'd be crushed at any serious event today with my old Vega, but this was back in 1983, and I was only 17 driving my very first car that I had bought and built from money I had saved as a kid.

Fast forward a few years, and I had gotten the itch again in the mid nineties when Mazda introduced their spectacular twin-turbo RX-7. I had bought this one new in 1994, an R2-RX7 that I used strictly for racing. By this time I had graduated to some serious track events, and ran STGT:

I wish I had gotten into autocrossing a lot sooner. I only really started doing it regularly in 2015.
