Finally got her muddy... kinda :D

Went to the Putnam County fair. The parking is a open grass/dirt field. Well the morning of we got a huge rainstorm. So it's all a swampy mess. Cars are getting stuck left and right. We play it safe the first time my buddy and I drive up. We end up leaving and comming back later. Well the cop patroling the parking area was leaving and we thought we'd have some fun, or at least I would. I started throwing up some mud on the road through the field and having fun and then I saw it.

There was a mud hole that wasn't deep, (I did check it, but not good enough). I found out when I went through it that it had been rutted out by others and I didn't catch that. Needless to say with a open carrier rear and being a 2wd at the moment, I got stuck. My buddy in a lifted k1500 with 35's tries to pull me out and he just spins cause in front of me is an imbankment and he is in the same boat as me. Has diffrent gear ratio's front and rear, so no 4x4. To beat all, after 20 minutes of people just laughing and pointing. A biker comes up and offers to push my truck out of the ruts. He waded into the muck and pushed me over the hole I dug and I managed to get back to the road and park. By the time I walked back he was already leaving and I didn't even get a chance to thank him. It was funny, all of the "good ole' boys" in lifted trucks with tow straps and winches wouldn't help me but a biker in a club vest and riding boots got in the mud and helped. I was hoping one of those guys that would'nt help would be sitting on the side of the road when I left so I could wave as I drove by...

But I couldn't get any pictures while stuck or after cause it had gotten dark, but heres some shots of the morning after in my drive-way. (It was worse but I drove about 40 miles before I got home and alot of it came off.)

There you go, nothing much but that's the muddiest it's been in a while. Can't wait to get my front gears and a locker in the back so I don't get stuck so easy. (And can actually start offroading.) Enjoy.

Thanks Muddbunny. And keep in mind, I'm currently a 2wd. I have 4.10's in the rear and 3.42's in the front which means no 4x4. Trust me, once I get my front gears and a Detroit Trutrac unit in, It'll be much better for next summer!

Plus it was nice swampy muck, once these Goodyears got caked, it was all over. There is a pick of my buddies K1500 in my gallerys and he couldn't budge me foreward. Given he's 2wd also with 3.08 in the front and 4.56 in the rear so no 4wd, and a Detroit full time locker. Like I said I wasn't offroading, just trying to park :D lol.

It's funny though, I was sunk up to the frame and flung mud foreward onto the hood and even in the windows, and it's like the body line stopped the mud from getting on the top of the blazer. Plus the "mud run" we went to the fair to watch, the parking lot was worse then the mud run! A stock 2WD! yes 2wd Jimmy on 235-75-15's street tires made it through the mud run with a good time. But my (currently) 2wd blazer lifted on 31's gets stuck in the parking area. I ventured into a mud hole that everyone else was avoiding and the mud hole won :icon_laugh:.

Even with different gearing, you could have put it in 4x4 once stuck since the mud would allow for slippage in the gearing difference. Some mud trucks run different gearing or different sized tires to create different gearing for mud use.

You prolly could have got yourself out with 4x4 and some smart use of the throttle.

Yeah but if I'm not 100% sure of something, I don't do it. This is my only means of transportation and didn't want to risk anything yet.

I found out yesterday that a couple fullsize trucks that ran in the mud run tried the hole I got stuck in to kinda make fun of me after I parked and went inside the fair. Well I was told that 2 got stuck, and it took a John deer tractor to pull them out.

When I got stuck all it took was a 130 pound guy to push me out of the hole my one pulling tire had dug and I floored it and got out. Just wait till next year when I have 4.10's front and rear and a Detroit Trutrac in the rear. I'll hit that hole agian and dominate, lol. I'll have my buddy record it this time :D.

Another tip tip to let the tires slowly spin in reverse to mesh the gears up good then sometimes when you go to 1st and tip in hard on the throttle the gears will stay meshed long enough for a quick 2 tire spin. Not an everytime thing, but worth trying if you are stuck without help.

Yeah I thought about that one and tried it a couple times. The ring and pinion set is only a couple monthes old so I didn't want tot thrash on it too much.

But thanks for telling me that. I'll keep that in mind. I'm always open to advice. I believe in two old sayings;
A wise man always has more questions than answers. And if your gonna be dumb you gotta be tough :icon_teeth: ha ha

I'm more of an expedition off roader. Like fire roads and trails, not much of a mud pit person.

Have you been to George Washington National Forest. i just did 100 miles off pavement there and 3 days of camping last month. Great pplace to do some kinda easy wheeling/tough road stuff. Most is on GPS, including a pretty cool jeep road.

I dont claim to know it all, but like to offer what minimal knowledge I have if someone might use it or it could help them. I like the sayings...I got one of my own that doesnt apply, but I said it one day and it has stuck with my friends

Life is just a series of moments..Its how you string them together.

Alright time for you to get some front gears and go show up the bigger trucks since you may be light enough to float across with some speed:icon_beerchug:....
