1997 Blazer front end not hooking up

THe 4x4 isnt working. The lights change on the dash. And when under the truck you can hear and feel the transfer case shift. When in 2x4 you can turn the front shaft in 4x4 hi and lo you cant turn the shaft.I have power to the switch on the front dif. What can be wrong?
It might help if I had a Diagram on how this system works.
Thanks BRad

chances are if the t-case is engaging you have vacuum problems not pulling the cable to engage the front axle start at the actuator and check out the diaphragm and look closely for cracked/dry rotted areas in the vac hoses associated with the actuator. Or if you dont want to mess with it anymore replace it with a cable system (search for any post by mysons95 he has a link in his sig to a nice write up cost $25 to do iirc). good luck keep us posted.

Thanks> I will check that if my son ever brings it back home.
If it is bad I may do the conversion.

Update: I took the battery and box out to get to the actuator. When I too the vac line off and started the engine(hooked bat. back up) put a vac gauge on the line I had less than 2 lbs vac and when gased it drops to 0.What should it be and what could be my problem?
am I better off to plug it and go with the manual pull?

Plugging it and going with a manual pull is your call. What is the manifold vacuum pressure as you should have close to that at the actuator. If it is only 2lbs, then you have a leak in the line somewhere. Could be in the actuator itself (what was the vacuum pressure with just the gauge hooked up?).

Just the guage is 2 then 0 with gas.
I am not into chasing too many leaks on these things. If a manual pull is simpler I will do it.It isnt like it is on my good Blazer this is my sons and if truth be told he is better off if the 4x4 isnt working. But yet I dont like things NOT to work.Get what I am saying.
Will it hurt anything to go manual?

going manual won't hurt anything a vacuum leak that isn't fixed on the other hand...
