4 button NV236 transfer case

Can the front/output driveshaft be removed and truck be driven in 2Hi? I have a horrible drivetrain vibration and am trying to narrow it down. I want to remove front driveshaft and see if vibration goes away.

Yup, pull her out.

I thought that but I read somewhere that there needed to be tension on the shaft but im assuming thats when TC is in auto 4x4 or 4hi and not in 2hi. Thanks captain, was hoping to have you chime in.

Not on these systems. The rear wheels are always engaged no matter what mode the TFC is in, so removing the driveshaft just disables the front wheel drive portion.
