4WD Issues
I replaced the vac actuator with a lock cable so i know my vac system is not causing issues. Also i check the T-case driveshaft and it is working properly. I don't THINK my front dif is engaging properly even with the cable instead of the common vac system that is always having issues.. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
BTW it is a 1997 S10 4WD w/4.3l V6 and 60k miles Manual 4wd not the push button.. |
Are you certain that the cable connected to the front diff is actually moving? It's not uncommon for them to get rusted internally and not move.

I actually found what the issue was last night after work.. I decided i was gonna pull harder on the cable i installed to do away with the vac system, so i gave it a good yank and it went right in. I wasn't pulling hard enough to engage the front dif before. So all is good and thanks! Now i need to find some mud (Which is hard this time of the year in Indiana lol, everything is frozen).. Pics of mine will be posted once a little more is done to it.

Glad to see you got it figured out! What I do with mine is pull it at about 2mph and lock it in and then leave it locked while wheeling and just use the button to switch in and out of 4x4 that way I no the front is always locked and waiting for power so if I am in 2wd and stop moving I can just tap the button and know my 4x4 will work rather than hoping it will lock the font.

Got her flexin a little! Now that 4wd is working i plan on doing a LOT more to it.

jbrooks19 Where did you get your cable at and how much was it? I've been thinking about doing the same to my jimmy cause i'm having problems with the diff locking in. I see you are from Indiana also! LOL

Check out the first page of my build thread I have a link and detailed write up on the conversion.

I also did the vac>lock conversion and it works awesome. I was surprised at how hard you need to pull, but I do just what Rex said: at 2mph-ish I pull hard and feel it engage.
I got my cable from NAPA, it was $30 but not black like Rex's |
My '99 S-1o Blazer feels like it's kicking in and out of $WD in slow turns. Is this from the vacum actuator not fully engaging? Do we lubicte the actuator?
