98 chev blazer LS 4x4 . Axle size? HELP!!!
So my fiance was driving the other day and started to hear a grinding noise. And now i find out what that noise is, pulled the diff cover and all the teeth are chewed out. Was thinking about buying a whole new axle from a junkyard for a hundred bucks rather than just buy the ring and pinion and spend days messing with shims and junk trying to get it perfect. i just cant figure out what the gears are , do they come stock with 3.73?

7.5 inch, look up the rpo code in the glove compartment for the gear ratio
look for f77 for 3.73 gear ratio

Umm... sorry to contradict you newguy, but the axle gear RPO's for the Blazers are GT4 for 3.73 gears, and GU6 for 3.42 gears. Those are the most common gear ratio's for the Blazers, although some S-series trucks also came with GU4 (3.08) and GT5 (4.10) gears.
F77 is a transaxle RPO, and I'm not sure that you'll find that in the glove box. If you scroll down farther on the list you linked to you'll see the "Axle Rear" codes I stated above.

No worries. I'm glad most people on here try to keep things friendly and civil when discussing differences. It makes it a lot easier for those of us with less experience to share without fear of being flamed. I know I enjoy helping out, but I would want someone to correct me if I shared erroneous information.

Okay guys! now that you have helped me with that (thank you!) I need to remove the whole complete axle in the rear, so that i can go get another one from the junk yard. What all do i need to take off the axle? i know you take the u bolts out but that is about it. Any input would help thank you
