axel swap question
Ok so to start no I didn't use the search button and for 1 reaason :
I'm using my blackkberry, since I have no internet at home no more So nnext year I want to swap out my whole suspension for either Toyota 6 bolt or gm 6 bolt solid axel but modified for coil spring and Not leaf springs Which spring would give me a ~ 6" lift ? Which is more reliable gm or toyota ? Which can take full lockers the best ? Which is more solid ? If toyota which year from tacomas ot t100's If gm which k series is best ? All this will be custom made at a local offroad fab shop near my house Thanks for all the info |
im not familiar with the toyota axles but i love running the gm 10 bolts just cause parts are everywhere. you can go into any junkyard or craigslist any day and find parts, but i wouldnt run anything more then 33s with lockers with those axles.
as far as which ones are the best... they are pretty much all the same. i believe the 89-91 came with 30 spline axle shafts up front instead of the more common 28spline. i hardly doubt that matters much though. |
I've been wondering the same thing on the axle swap. Looking to do a conversion on the front from independent to a solid and same with the back. I myself was looking at just some dana44's for the front. Idk if I need an off center axle or not. I don't have experience with axles at all and this is my first project so I don't exactly know what I should be looking for...
My current idea is a Dana 44 off of a jeep cherokee. Not doing the spring over axle conversion. I want to put on detroit lockers in front and back if possible. Back I'm not sure yet. Was looking at the GM10 bolts. Just haven't followed through yet as I want to do both at the same time. I already know what I want for axle shafts and so forth just not WHICH kind of axle I should throw on. I'm not the richest guy on the block either.. I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy SLE 4dr 4x4. Any help for a nooby would be great. |
