Can I drive with NO rear drive shaft? How far and fast?

2000 gmc jimmy with 4 button 4 wheel selector. If I put it in 4 hi Can I drive with my rear drive shaft removed? One of my u joints is shot and I need to get to the parts store and then a friends house to press in the new joint. So if I can drive with out it how far and fast can I go?

yeah you kind of need that driveshaft in the rear of the transfercase to hold the fluid in, though if it was short distances i doubt it would hurt anything. i broke a u joint while driving years ago and drove with the front shaft only to make it home. less then a mile though

Yea, I've done it, not too far and not too fast,
Fingers crossed.
