Can I use a standard shock for a 3" drop

I've got the front end tore apart to do ball joint's and the whole 9 yard's. I'm going to be dropping the front 3" with the Bell Tech key's. I thought this would be a good time to swap the shock's. Coud I just go to Autozone and get some 3" shorter shock's. Would that work,,,or am I dreamin. If anyone has done this, what shock's did you use. Thank's.[/align]
