Which is cheaper?

Haha...be sure and ask the shop if you can hang around and take pics for a nice how-to on your favorite website

OK, so we've had a BLAST so far putting this thing in. /sarcasm
My old pin was somehow melded to the carrier and it took quite a bit of convincing (read hammering, cutting wheel, cursing) to get it out. I suppose I drove too long on a bad rear end.
The good news is it's out and all set for the new posi.
The bad news is I need a ring gear spacer to put it in. The two carriers are the same height physically, but the mounting area on the posi sits lower (if the carrier is on end) than the stock one that came out. There's a machine shop literally right around the corner from me so I'm hoping to use some connections to have a 1/4" spacer made.
As of now, she's sitting on jackstands waiting for a new rear end. I'm glad she's patient!
EDIT: Oh and pics and vidz again once it's all buttoned up.

You really have to measure from the seat where the bearing rests to the seat where the gear rests. You cannot just put them side by side on a table and say that they are different. If you set them up on machinist parallels resting on the surface that the bearing seats on, then compare, you will get the true difference.
Some diffs are longer than others in this area.

I understand what you mean Kyle, but it doesn't seem possible to put the old ring gear onto the new carrier without some sort of spacer. I don't know if the 3.23's that were supposedly originally on the G80 are thicker than my 3.42's or what.
I know it's not exactly a level surface in some of the pics but can you see how much of a difference it is.
I'm sure a machinist will be able to get a much closer measurement than my 1/4".
EDIT: Sorry, forgot my img tags.

I'm jealous. I want one.

Are you sure you got the proper diff?? That looks to be way off and I'm not sure I would be comfortable with a spacer in there...

What does the overall measure from outside of bearing race to outside of bearing race? Are they the same length overall?

You might need the G80 carrier... Or something... It shouldn't be that much out...

Wonder if the ring gear is different if you have a G80 vs a non-g80?...
