Hello all. First post.
A little background. I recently purchased a 1999 4 door 4wd blazer

I bought it in Chicago and had to drive it back to Colorado. I had Firestone replace a bad balljoint and had them change the oil and do a fluid check on everything else. This is the result of their fluid check.

This happened in Nebraska. Luckily I found a rear end that had the correct ratio (GT4-3.73) but it was a ZR2 rear. But through the search function here I found this post.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/steeri...d-non-z-45006/

Which had me back on the road in a few hours with the only thing left to do is reinstall the rear sway bar after I make new u-bolts for the mount.

Thank you NVANZEE and especially swartlkk for all the info. Couldn't have done it without the u-joint info

The only good thing is the replacement rear end only had 30k miles on it which according to paperwork I got with the Blazer closely matches the engine and tranny which have around 28k on them. Rest of the Blazer has 167k.

Thing is.. did they hand you a check list of what they did?

Maybe the rookie didnt think differentials on 4WD needed to be checked. It's a lotta work, ya know.

Yup, I did read. No way simply checking the fluid level caused the cover to explode, so I was asking for some clarification. Pretty obvious from my post, I would think...

Actually the GovLok was pretty much intact. The pinion gear decided it no longer wanted to be part of the pinon shaft at 75 mph. It exited out the back which is the only reason it didnt lock up.

Yea i got the check sheet, says they checked the diffs and transfer case too. However after we got the new rear in I had the shop check the fluid level in the front diff and transfer case. front diff was 3/4 a quart low and the transfer case was 1 quart low.

I will never have someone do these things for me again, my problem was I flew in with no tools to pick it up.

I think I'd be asking for repair moneys. (read: demanding)

I had planned on that but with the exception of the front diff. it will be hard to prove. The rear was destroyed and after I pulled the rear driveshaft and limped 15 miles to the shop using 4 hi and the front axle they could claim the transfer case fluid spewed out the rear output. It didn't and was really pretty dry but it is not something I can prove. I was too busy trying to get back on the road to take anymore pictures.
