Converting 4wd to 2wd ? About the front diff
 

I here recently converted my 2001chevy blazer LT to 2wd with taking out the front drive shaft from the transfer case to the front diff. I couldn' afford at this time to pay 200 for the CV joint that is on the drive shaft.

my question is if i wanted to further demo out the front diff. Could I take out the front diff and the transaxles. I recently replaced the front transaxles. I still have my old one. Could I just tear apart my old transaxles and just use the outer spline that hooks into the rotor. Would that be ok

I'm considering doing the same thing with this 97 I just bought. It was supposed to be a project but the other party had different ideas about it. I don't have any experience with 4wd so I'm just going to go the same route. I've taken the fuses out so it doesn't try to engage. Not sure what else to do at this point.

If you have the old CV shaft assemblies that you could butcher up, I would definitely rip them apart and stick the stub end into the wheel bearings and put the nut on. I'm not 100% sure, but I think those nuts do provide some pressure against the wheel bearing hub assembly, and without them they may prematurely fall apart and fail.

Your bearings WILL fall apart (and your wheels fall off) if you don't put the stubs back in.

Personally, I would just leave the front axle in place (it's not hurting anything, is it?) and replace the driveshaft joint when you have the cash. If you ever want to sell the thing, it's not going to be worth much with a butchered front end.

Look into 2wd front spindle and hub assembly if you wish take the drive shaft off.
