Cracked plastic covering of steering wheel column

Hello,

I own a 2002 Blazer LS. I was changing the oil yesterday and noticed a crack in the black plastic covering that fits over the steering wheel column, just above where the orange sleeve is adjacent to the wheel flap. I haven't noticed any change in the steering and went on and taped it up with electrical tape. Any potential issues with this covering being cracked?

Thanks.

Andrew

Are you refering to the steering SHAFT? If so the orange tube is a seal of sorts meant to keep cruud and miosture out of the impact telescope. Nothing will happen with electrical tape. Better would be self vulcanising rubber tape from the local home inprovement store

Thank you. Sorry I meant the shaft. I bought some today and taped it up.

Thanks!
