DOes everyones blazer/s-10 have traction problems?
 

I have a 98 2wd blazer and have always experienced "bad traction". Wet roads are scary for me. New tires have been tried and same thing. Is there some crazy gear ratio in there and what can be done to solve it. I know several people and they all say the same thing about similar vehicles. I soon plan on adding more horsepower but whats the point if i just sit there and burn the tires down? Is there a swap or upradeor sumthing i can do?

Did you buy it from someone else? Could have a super low gear ratio. Whats the rpms at,at 60mph?

One way to fix it if you really want to,is put in some 3:08 gears etc

Yeah I have the same thing...always hydro planing and such...but its pretty fun at 1am coming home from work to power slide through all intersections

Thx. I bought it from individual but he knew nuthing about cars so it has to be stock. But if im gonna do any engine mods that rear end has got to be fixed. thanks for your info.

Do you have a G80 differential? By the sounds of it you don't. That's the factory option for a limited slip rear.It can be overcome with a Eaton posi lock, ARB air locker etc, tons out there. Look around & see what fits your driving style etc.

Under $600 probably for either or any posi lock style rear... within reason (streetability)

doobee. Open your glovebox and look on the bottom. You will see a white sticker with a shizz ton of codes,Like gu6,m30,etc etc. Find anything like gu4,gt4,g80 etc. anything g. It'll tell us what gear ratio u have.

i can also find out with the vin number if you need

You didnt menton what type of tires you put on. Cheap tires will cause this.

Yea i had cheap tires when i bought it and it started thr problem so i bought a whole new set of perrelis(sp). But that solves no problems. In my opinion it has to be the the rear end.like i say i have had several friends with same vehicle and one even went thru and put wider rims thinking better surface area would solve the problem and it ended up being the same. Anyone know of a posi kit that will bolt in? Not sure if it will help me any. Instead of of one wheel burn ill prolly end up with 2 wheel burn and with osi that wont be too fun,

There's tires and there's tires.
And you have to pick the right tread design and rubber 'hardness' for what you want to use the truck for.

This should be a good all-round tire.
But see the siping.. once that's gone, this tire's just ordinary on wet roads.

The open side treads are good when raining/heavy wet. Would be better if both sides angled same way but then it would be directional.

Posi trac is a mixed bag. Gotta keep it mind it will tend to kick out the rear end on slick corners. Not to mention what happens when you accelerate unaware on black ice.. did a 360 at 70mph in middle of interstate once because I only added enough friction modifier to stop cornering creak.
