Does front drive shaft turn on 86 K-5 when not in 4 wheel drive?
 

Hi guys. I am new to the forum. I have a question I need help with. I have a 1986 K5 that has been sitting for about 6 years. I am having to start driving it again and I have a friend of mine going over it, but he is a ford man. He said the front drive shaft is loose and needs to be replaced. He is not sure if it turns all the time or not. He does know that it does NOT turn all the time on a ford. Does it turn all the time or just when it is in 4 wheel drive? I will wait and replace it later if it does not turn all the time. Everyone I have asked either is not sure or have different opinions. I sure appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

depends on whether it has lock out hubs. if u have lock out hubs ur driveshaft doesnt turn when in 2wd.

just grab it and spin it manually. unless its in 4wd it doesnt turn... well it turns barely in 2wd just from the little bit of friction in the transfercase. my front shaft used to be tore up and you would hear it squeak a few times when you started moving but no it doesnt turn like the rear one
