Question Front end problem

I have a 2000 Blazer 4x4 LT 4.3 and I was changing out my spark plugs the other day (I always take the wheels off, its easier for me to get to all the plugs that way) and I notice what one may call a Bump Stop or what Autozone calls it ( I have the box right in front of me) a "Control Arm Bumper" its the big round black (In my case) rubber thing that hangs down and will hit the frame if the bump is a ruff one. I have done searches on this site and google for replacement of a "Control Arm Bumper" and I get a blank. So maybe what they (Autozone) calls it might be one thing and yet it is call something else.

Anyhow, I'm looking for a way to replace it. And from I can see this is going to be a bear. The one on there now has a big hole in it. From what I can tell I will have to take the shock out and the bolts out of the "Y" thing that goes to the ball joint and lower that part of the subspendion system to get to the nut that is almost hidden by it.

Am I wrong in what I see to change it out? Or is there another way to do it? It sure looks like a lot of work just to change the bumper out and I figure once I have that out to go ahead and replace the bushings in the "Y" Yolk (the word I was looking for before). and the front shocks, they have 55K on the front ones and feel a little spougly (sp).

Any help?

Thanks

I've never replaced them but most people I've heard refer to them as bump stops

Why are you replacing it? Unless it's broken that's not really something you need to replace, and even then I always thought they just twisted out. I could be wrong on that however.

I have one with a big hole in it. How that happen I don't know. And no they don't twist out, there is a piece sticking up (I guess to put in a slot to stop them from turning as you take off or on) I wish it would be that easy. I can get a wrench on the nut above inbetween the yolk, but no room to turn it. Thanks for the reply's.
