How to swap a transfer case? What additional parts are needed? 99 blazer 4x4
 

i am about to swap a transfer case on a 99 blazer 4x4(direct replacement np8 236, nothing fancy) and need to know what other parts i will need. i think there are some gaskets that need to be replaced, but i need to know which ones to order so i can get them now (before i start the swap).

also, can someone point me to a good "how to" on this swap, with pics?

since it appears that i am the only one to have ever swapped a transfer case on this entire forum:rolleyes: (judging by the number of responses), you will need the gasket that goes between the transfer case and transmission, part # 1564-2511 from gm (can't get it at autozone). you'll need 3 quarts of gm auto trak blue transfer case fluid (if you have the 4 button dash switch like i did, otherwise the 3 button switch TC can get away with the old red fluid), you can only get this at gm as well, part no 12378508.

a set of stubby ratchets is ESSENTIAL to getting the transfer case out, the top bolts are a real bitch to get to.

I've pulled off plenty of them. What's your point? And that gasket is not necessary. Good old RTV is all that is required. I've sealed up plenty with Ultra Black RTV and none have leaked. But that's been posted before as well as being referred to in most aftermarket manuals.

You may want to replace the adapter gasket (or reseal it with RTV) too. Didn't see your post. Just had mineeout to stop it leaking all over the place. Resealed evertthing. Personally I prefer gaskets but I guess it's whatever you want to do. They're pretty cheap. I found that the upper bolts aren't bad but the bottom one is kinda tough when your mount is shot. You might want to replace that too. It's like $15.00. The top vent hose is tight to get to. I have a 94 with a 233. It may not even be the same as yours but then again it can't be that much different. You really should get a manual if for no other reason than the proper torques are in them and with aluminum overtorquing is a no=no. I know I'll get some anecdotes on this but it'll eventually warp on you if you put too much on it, That's why they publish these things.

If you drop the tranny pan to get to the t-case bolts on the bottom can you keep the tranny mount in place? Or do you have to remove it? I have a 97 4x4 with a 3 button. 2 door Thanks
