Need new torsion bars, can't find them anywhere :(
 

I can not for the life of me find any new torsion bars, anywhere, I can't even find NOS. I have 208k miles and my truck feels like driving a bowl of cereal. I'm redoing the whole suspension, but the one thing I can't find anywhere are new torsion bars. If anyone knows where I can find them, stock, aftermarket, or of other model torsion bars that fit etc. please let me know. I'm almost tempted to find some

PFA, the leafs are old and tired too, but I can get replacements for those readily...
in a junkyard with low miles, but they're still springs that have been in compression for 2 decades.

Those are the ones I just found, and I have to doublecheck, but I'm almost certain they aren't right based on the "max load" which I can only assume is exactly what it sounds like, given that the 4 door 4x4 Blazer was the heaviest variant of the S10. And other sites I looked on came back with 15956509 code. I suppose I should go dig up my RPO list just to be sure. I honestly can't believe there isn't an aftermarket option, these trucks are hugely popular, and they are still on the road in force, albeit many of them high mileage, as mine is. But considering that a modern day "compact" is bigger than a full size from the era of my S10 Blazer I have no intention of getting rid of it.
Edit: I just looked, and the area is smudged, but I'm fairly certain I have 7WJ. So I guess the stiffer ones on that page must be the ZR2 bars, which makes sense. In any case, it appears I'm still **** out of luck unless I find some NOS, going to hit up a stealership tomorrow and see if they can wrangle anything up...I still can't believe there aren't aftermarket ones available, these trucks are popular as hell and there's still quite a few on the road. I have like 4 different brands to choose from for leaf springs, but not 1 for torsion bars.

Yeah, your best bet is to find some used ones from a low mileage ZR2, or get super lucky and find somewhere that carries them. Even though the 4-door Blazers were the heaviest they very often came with the softer torsion bars because they were targeted as family or granny vehicles, not as HD work horses. Those customers want soft smooth rides. Here's the part numbers for all the various torsion bars that came on S-series trucks:

The torsion bars have the last 3 digits of the part number stamped into the LCA end of the torsion bars, so if you can clean it up enough, you can be sure of what model it is. Other option would be to use a caliper to measure the diameter and compare to the list above.

I never realized how hard it was to find t bars. But now that I do know, I have this urge to replace mine 😔

The heavier bars really are hard to find. I got lucky twice: I have a set of the 30.69mm torsion bars from a ZR2 pickup that I ended up not installing on my Blazer because I couldn't free the factory bars from the keys before I sold the Blazer. I was about to install them on my newer crew cab Sonoma when I found out that the previous owner had already upgraded the torsion bars and leaf packs through the dealership a couple years before I bought the truck.

Welp, I've pretty much given up on finding new torsion bars, after giving it some thought, I think what I might do is an SAS. I was going to rebuild my whole suspension and steering anyways, and I was also planning to lift it, and wanted a front LSD or locker. I think for me at least this might be the best solution. There is a lot less parts to wear out, there is no shortage of leaf spring options, it will be stronger, I will have options for an LSD or locker, etc. I still can't believe nobody makes torsion bars for the S-series it really blows my mind. I still see lots of them on the road, and I know people love them. And compact trucks/SUV's(not to be confused with crossovers, aka overgrown station wagons with slightly more ground clearance) aren't even made any more, so I doubt I'm the only one who plans to hang onto theirs. I love the rugged simplicity of it, and it may be on the small side, but still manages to do everything I need it to. On the note of SAS swap, I'm still trying to figure out what my options are for donors, I found a pretty good list for the Dodge/Jeep products and what axles they have, but I still haven't found one for Ford or Chevy. I think I'm going to go with a Dana 44. I'll probably swap for a manual T-case too, the electronic ones are so unreliable...not what I want in my 4x4...Looking to see what's in junkyards atm, found an 87 2500 4x4 in a pick and pull, but not sure what it has, trying to figure that out currently. I do appreciate the info about parts numbers, but in the end it doesn't do me any good if nobody has any of them...I considered buying the ones I had found, but if anything I want stiffer bars, not softer ones, that's the whole reason I want to replace them anyways...at 208k this old truck is sloppy.
