NV233 safe to run in 4HI all the time?
Ok, i have a 95 Blazer 3-button 4wd, it is stuck in 4lo and is either the encoder or the TCCM neither of which i want to replace, i feel like the electronic crap is just prone to fail. So here is what im thinking, what if i manually put it in to 4HI and just leave it there all the time then use the Posi-Lock system to engage the front dif when needed? Will this cause issues to run the transfer case in 4hi all the time. I plan to put a shifter on in the spring its just too damn cold right now.
So, will it hurt the transfer case or any other parts to run in 4hi with the front dif disconnected all the time? A timely response is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! |
The 3 button stuff is EASY to troubleshoot. If it weren't so cold out I'd come up north and help you with it. Besides pic-a-part and pull a part in Indy are LITTERED with blazers of your style. It is just too cold out for my old/crippled self to be out in the snow.

Im just burnt out. I replaced the encoder and, still dosnt work. So went back to the old one. All thats left is the switch on the dash and the TCCM, correct?

There is a vacuum switch on the side of the transfercase that is known to be junk.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...13355529_o.jpg Easy swap, on the drivers side of the t-case, up top. The one in my 04 was stuck in 4wd. :( |
Wouldn't that cause just the front dif to stay engaged? Or can it cause the transfer case to stay in 4lo also?
|
It isn't strong enough to cause issues with the t-case not doing anything. But it can cause odd issues.

I really think its an electrical issue, probably the TCCM. I just hope the shop gets it fixed soon today as the snow we got and my wifes Aurora (Northstar V8) don't get along. Plus tomorrow it is supposed to be very cold and windy which means this snow is gonna drift bad.
|
Well, shop just called.....Bad TCCM, as i suspected.. $250 For remanufactured TCCM and he also said he was going to re-solder the switch on the dash and replace the bulbs. So, i think $250 isn't bad for parts, diagnostic and labor.

Sure beats getting stuck in the snow, though I haven't had to use 4wd yet. We got like 5 in down here if that. Your not too far north of me though I'm down by i70.

Yeah, we got 5 or 6in here. My wife's car is horrible in even and inch of snow. It sits so low to the ground and seems really light so tires just like to spin when your trying to take off. If you ever make it up this way PM me, we will get a coke or coffee and talk about Blazers Lol. :)
