Just wondering if it is possible and how easy it is to take the push button out since im having problems with it and put a manual pull 4X4 on the floor.

ZR2 USA has that pretty well covered, complete with write up and pics.

There is a better way that the use of a wrench. I've been doing some research on this myself and this is whatI've found. What you would need is a shifter from either an earlerblazer with a floor shifter or a shifter from any vehicle that has an np-231 transfer case.

When you get down to it, the np-231 found in many vehicles is almost exactly the same as the np-233 found on most vehicles with push button transfer cases. The difference is pretty much just in terms of bolt patterns to transmissions and whether there is a shift motor (np-233)or lever (np-231). Otherwise internally mostly externally its the same unit. Even down to the shift positions and, best of all, the end of the shiftingshaft that comes out of the transfer case. The shape and design of that shifting shaft makes it perfect to take a manual shifter and attach to it.

So as i mentioned you can take a shifter out of a blazer, or jeep, or just about any other vehicle that has np-231 and connect it to a np-233.....almost. There is a small hitch. While the shifter will line up with the shifter shaft you will need to come up with some way to retain it in place. Either you can weld it in place, or you can drill and tap the shaft and use the retainer from an np-231. The other snag that you may hit is that you will need to make a bracket to support all the linkages. This just takes time and creativity but remember, when you remove the shift motor there are now 3 holes with bolts that a bracket can befabbed tofastened to.

Now, lets say you cant find a shifter because there arent any bone yards around or you just dont want to go digging. Novak has got you covered. They make an aftermarket universal shifter with linkages for np-231's. They come with a universal length straight shaft that can be bent to any angleto fit yourinterior.Additionally they sell boots to go with the shifter thatbolt to the floor and willcover the hole you have to makeand shift *****. Here is a link to the shifter if interested. LINK

Sorry..missed your first reply.

I dont think there was ever a 'two light push button' transfer case...just the 3 button electronic, and some 1st gens got the manually lever-shift case. Either way, if you have the electronic shift, there is a manual engagement ability. Its not quite crawling under there and engaging it...you need a large wrench and a bit of force, but its do-able.

Like you said, you would need to do the manual shift mod as well as a manual control for the front axle.

some 1st gens had a "2 light push button" my 94 for instance has 2 buttons one for 4hi and one for 4lo nothing for 2wd I would assume this is what ptg327 is referring to since his is a 92.
