rear axle swap
i have a 95 s10 4x4 and a 99 blazer 4x4. i was wondering what code do i olok at to compare the gear ratios? id like to swap the rear axle from the parts blazer to the s10 so i have the disc brakes on the rear but i need to know if the gear ratios are the same or not. thanks for the help

Look in the glove box. There is a list of rpo codes in there, one will be the axle ratios. Can't remember exactly, but they start with G I think. GT3, GUA stuff like that. I know it's on this forum a bunch of places, shouldn't be too hard to search up

Ok thanks

ok next question. so figured out the s10 and blazer both have 3.42 gears but the s10 has the limited slip dif, g80 code, blazer doesnt. how difficult would it be to just pull the brakes from the blazer rear and swap them to the s10 to give it disc brakes?

Probably not too hard, to physically get the rear disc's onto the drum axle.
Have to pull both axle shafts out, to swap backing plates. Where you might run into issues is with the master cylinder. Might have to put some kind of proportioning valve in, since disc and drums operate at different pressures |
I was wondering about that as well. Where would i get a proportioning valve? Or would it be easier to swap master cylinders too?

I swapped a disk axle to my '96 Blazer to replace the drums. When I did it, all I did was bleed the brakes, and everything worked well. You will need to replace the park-brake cable. They're different lengths and different cable ends on the disc version vs the drum.

You didn't have any issues with the rear locking up before the front? Even during heavy braking? That's good to know!
