Rear brakes grinding thinking it parking brake

I'm having trouble with grinding in the rear. I have new rotors and pads but I think they didn't replace the shoes for the parking brake and think that where the grinding is coming for. My question is can I remove the shoes and leave it disconnected. It's a 2001 I don't use the parking brake and don't care if it works. Thanks for your help.

yeah you can, we've done it for customers at work that are friends with the boss. also the backing plates like to rot away which can make all sorts of noise. but yeah if you dont use it and they are garbage just throw them away

Had this same problem on my 01 Jimmy the parking brake shoes made an ugly crunching sound when brakeing. Not good with brakes so i took it to my mehanic an old family friend and he took out the parking brake shoes disabling the parking brake. That being the only option because my backing plates are rotted to **** and the parking brake shoe is held up in part by the backing plate. So that noise went away but ABout a week later ive noticed a new annoying rattley noise coming from the rear end which must have something to do with the rotted out backing plates not really sure what it is yet

They are cheap but I think you have to remove the shaft to replace them, and if you do that you might as well replace the bearings and seals. I'm just going to remove them. Monday night I ether blew a rear line or caliber. I hear that the rubber lines like to CLapps and make the rear brake grab when the brakes are not pressed.
