Removing steering arm
How do u remove the steering arm on a 1984 chevy blazer. I have tried every thing , and it won't budge....it looks like that there is a lock washer or something holding it in...can someone plz help me out. thanxs
Did you try using a torch to heat the arm up red hot and penetrant to get in between it and the steering box splined shaft? If you don't use alot of heat and lubricant it definately won't happen for you. Usually I just change the steering box and arm together because it is such a pain in the butt to get them seperated.
i had thesame problem on my old 3/4 ton pickup. back when I didn't have a torch, power tools, or patience. I just gave up and brought it to a shop. They said they did it the same way sittintall suggested with the torch and they had a biotch of a time with it too.
I was thinking you meant pitman arm when you said steering arm. The pitman arm is the splined lever that slips over the steering box's splined output shaft. The other end of the pitman arm hooks directly to the drag link and then the drag link hooks to the tie rods on that 84' Blazer. What exactly then is your part you would like to remove? Describe it's location and we can go from there. You might be refering to one of the spindle arms when you say steering arm. I don't know at this point.
