Replacing Power Steering Fluid, 2001 Blazer
I recently took my Blazer to the shop to have the rear differential gasket replaced. Among a long laundry list of things to do (totalling over $1,000, they always come up with at least a grand worth of repairs :icon_doh:) they recommended flushing the powersteering fluid as a "maintenance item" for a vehicle with 100K miles.
How difficult is it to replace the power steering fluid yourself? Does it take special tools? I am fairly mechanically inclined, although I don't have much time under the hood. Thanks |
I simply suck it out of the pump with a turkey baster and refill with fresh fluid... do this 4 or 5 times over a few days and the fluid becomes pretty darn clean. Not exactly the way the pro's do it but effective just the same.
