Replacing the Steering Column- 74 Blazer

At 6'5" 290 lbs, I decided that the standard steering column in my truck, just doesnt work. even with the seat fully back, I need some movement from the steering wheel. Anyone have any good experiences with a specific replacement tilt column? Anyone ever see a telescoping column that fits plug and play into a 74 Blazer? Thoughts.... thanks

I'm not sure what would be involved with swapping a tilt/telescoping column from say an '80's era Cadillac, but it probably will not be a simple unbolt, remove, and install the new one.

Tilt columns became optional in '77 if I remember correctly. The earlier you can get, the more likely it is that it will be a direct swap. Having never researched a swap like this in detail, I do not have specifics. I can assume that the columns would bolt right in, but the electrical side of things will likely have changed. This could possibly include changes to the wiring/connectors involving the turn signal switch and the ignition switch.

I have an entire '90 'burb that I will be cutting up to graft into my K5. My ultimate goal is to have my '74 running the TBI 350, the HVAC system, doors with power locks/windows, and the entire dash/wiring all from the '90. This will include the tilt column that came in the 'burb.

friend of mine is a big guy and just put a little steering wheel on it. only bad part is if the truck ever needs to be pushed around good luck turning it.

ya never know that cadi column might be a direct fit. chevys re usually pretty good when it comes to interchangeability. might just have to rewire it a little bit

Thanks....I got a small steering wheel...and learned that the hard way. Looking for a bolt in....saw one on LMC trucks....pretty basic but was hoping to find something with more movements.
