Squeaking From Rear Driver side wheel
 
I have a 2x4 95'.
I do a lot of highway driving. Recently there has been a squeaking sound coming from my rear drivers wheel once i go about 70 km/h (45 mph). the squeak has more of a roatation sound. If anyone knows whats wrong with it and how i can fix it. it would be awesome to know

Sounds like rear brakes may be on the way out. Have you removed the wheels and the brake drum to inspect the shoes yet?

yea i have. they are wearing only on one side and the drum is hard to reinstall once I have taken them off but i have never heard of brake pads being readjustable. i thought it might have been a lack of grease in my axle but im not screwing around with something so vital to the vehicle without knowing what the problem is.

The rear drum brakes are adjustable. They have an automatic adjuster that runs across between the brake shoes on the bottom.

Another possibility is the backing plate could have somehow gotten pushed in against the drum or the axle bearing could be sloppy enough to allow the drum to contact the backing plate.

and how would i be able to test to see which one of those is wrong ?

See if there is any up/down movement in the wheel. With the wheel still bolted on, check the clearance between the drum and the backing plate all the way around. A mirror will make this easier.

when i move the wheel up and down it sounds like the tire is not tightened (which i know it is torqued to 100 ft/lbs).

Sounds like a bad wheel bearing which will require you to open up the rear diff, pull the cross shaft retaining bolt, then the cross shaft, push the axle in and remove the c-clip, then you will be able to pull the axle out and replace the bearing.

wow that is a lot of work. u you say it is potentially dangerous driving with it broken

Depends on how bad it is. If allowed to go too far, you could end up losing a wheel.
