So mine being a 99, how hard would it be to convert it? Or is it possible?

Your 99 will have the 1" chain (assuming you have the np233c, and not the 236 transfer case.) Jeep XJs have the same width chains in their np231 cases, so the front output shaft and yoke from those will work for you. I don't know if their driveshafts will fit, though. I would guess they would be in the ball park, but you'll just have to measure/test fit it.

Also, np231/233 cases are really easy to take apart. I watched a couple YouTube videos, and it made it easy.

When you are all done, you should do a full write up with a specific title for the swap so others can find it in the future. The info on the years and make/models with the swapable parts will be super useful.

So what size would be the chain in my 1999 4-button transfer case?

That, I haven't looked into. I never came across anything about the np236 cases. I might try to look up some stuff today about them, you got me curious. If I had to guess, it would be more difficult to swap to fixed output, I believe the 236s have clutches inside them, to work with the auto 4x4 feature

So, tcase is filled, rear dshaft is in, and it moved around the block under its own power. Shifted fine into 4hi and 4lo also. I'll need to get some more miles on it, but I think I actually put it back together correctly!
