92 blazer - AWD astro control arm swap

I was looking at the upper control arms on a 99 AWD astro today and noticed that the arms are tubular in design, not stamped. Just so happened there was a blazer about four cars away in the wrecking yard I could compare with. On visual inspection it appears to be close to the astro arm in size and shape. What has got my interest is did the astro come with a heavier duty type upper arm? Also, my blazer is in need of some positive camber and if the astro arm are longer could this give the camber I need?

Ok I dont know anything about the astro uca's but I can tell you that just a lityle extra length can make several degrees difference in camber. And one more thing to think anout is bj angles the icas were ,ade for a different spindle

Here's a look at the upper control arm on the 99 AWD astro. Angle looks close and the ball joint bolt pattern looks close also. I might just spend sometime in the wrecking doing a swap to see if it fits.

That would be sweet you might have to drill the blazer spindle for the astro bj

nismo,

I was at the auto parts tonight and I had the guy look up both, blazer and astro, arm bushing and ball joint. Totally different as parts numbers go, but could still be compatible. Right now, it looks like the 4 bolt pattern for the ball joint on the astro is close to the same pattern on the blazer. So, if this is true I could use a blazer BJ on the astro CA. If the astro bushings are compatible to the blazer bushing mount then I would use the astro bushing in the blazer frame mount, nothing to modify. The only thing I would modify is a brace between the 2 arms on the astro CA, add some strength. I really think I am going to try the swap in the wrecking yard first, see if they interchange. Once i get them both out I can take some rough measurements and see if there is any difference in length and so on.
