Trouble with shackles.
I just bought lift shackles for my 2000 blazer but I'm having trouble getting the bolts out. Does anyone have any ideas besides using a torch?
|
i beat the piss out of them with a sledge hammer and used a block of wood in between the frame and the leaf spring
|
I just drenched mine in penetrating oil and started pounding away, make sure not to pound on the bolt if you're re-using though.
|
I used to torch to get mine out, its the easiest way, but you can do what the other two guys said, may be a little more difficult

Pb plaster and a cheater bar.

i drilled into the end of the bolt and pushed it out with a gear puller. done it a few times now works eveytime

Thanks to everyone that replied. My step dad told me the only way was to replace the leaf springs cause there was no way to get the bolts out so I wanted to see what other options might work.
|
that would be an option...up to you.
if you do manage to get the bolts out ...CAREFULLY heat the bushings and tear rubber out...then CAREFULLY use a saw zall to cut the steel sleeves and pry them out. |
if you take a nice sized drill bit you can drill out some of the rubber part of the bushing making it easier to get the part with the bolt and the sleeve it is stuck in out. then just pry the rubber out and take a sawzall and cut a line through it and pry the rest of it out!!! all done!!! had the same problem on my truck too.
