Will it work ??

Ive been looking around and thinking about the add a leaf springs to lift my blazer back to where it should sit and thinking about getting some shackles to go on the back leafs to give me an extra 2" lift on the back !! :) But would i get enough lift on the front by adjusting the torsion bars to make it look level and correct ?? Is there any add a leaf springs that i should stay away from or any that are good and will lift my sagging leaf springs to where they should be.
Thanks :)

I don't have any advice on brand or type of add-a-leaf (short vs long) but the torsion bars shouldn't be cranked more than about 1-1.5". Depending on how much your rear springs are sagging, 2" shackles and add-a-leaf might lift the rear too high to get the front to match.

A tbar crank pushes the control arms down to gain height but since the front differential and axle aren't being lowered, the CV axles, balljoints and tie-rods all have to work at steeper angles which can cause them to wear out faster than normal.

On my Blazer, I had the BDS long add-a-leaf put in and the torsion bars cranked up. My rear leaf packs were pretty flat before and the add-a-leaf lifted my Blazer well past stock ride height. (around 2" to 2.5" higher than stock) The torsion bars were maxed out which resulted in a bind on the CV's, and those were just replace 2 weeks ago and the torsion bars backed down some to keep it from happening again. I am not sure if all the AAL's are the same way as the BDS set I got, but I would just try a long AAL first and see where that gets you. The 2 (AAL and shackles) would be fine together, but there just isn't enough on the front end to lift it the same amount with out some serious cash for a kit that has front differential drop bracketry :icon_twocents: Good luck and I hope this helps!
P.S. I 2nd what mdehoogh said in his post

Just another question before i buy some shocks,.What type are the ends on the 2000 blazers ? Are they eyelets on both ends or 1 eyelet and one bar pin ?? Mine is a UK model !! Not sure if it makes a difference.
Thanks :)

i just put a set of cooper discovery s/t's on mine with about 65% tread left and i rub on the driver side at the bottem of the wheel well gives it a nice hight and everything and i didnt see to much of a drop in my mpg either anyways 31/10.50/ are a squease w/o a lift and if it agressive you will prolly have to do some trimming

v8 jago 10-25-2011 02:11 PM

Looks very good !! Have you put them on with the standard set up, Not lifted of anything ??

Dcall94 10-25-2011 09:19 PM

thanks! and yea its how i bought the truck originally thought it was lifted w/ the shackle and t-bar crank like your talking about but when i got under it for the tires it looks stock.... iv heard that some of these will clear 31's stock bc of the height guess some sat higher i guess i just got lucky on mine if you look at my photos you can see how it sat on my 245/70's and see it sits higher then most. try and compare yours to it because you will prolly have to do something because my 31's are about 60% i got them used so new 31s are gonna rub like mad! without the shackle and tbars cranked other option would b a 2'' BL whick on some still requires some trimming.

hope it helped!!
