2000 S10 & 31" Patagonia MTs
Hey all - newbie question. Helping my 22 y/o kid with his newly acquired stock 2000 Blazer LT.
Vehicle needs tires desperately and shocks badly. We are planning a 2 1/2 inch RC lift and 31 X 10.5 X 15 Patagonia MTs. Will the tires clear if we do tires before the lift? Or do we have to do the lift first. Anything else needed for backspacing on the stock rims? Thanks! https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/blazerf...ff319d1b00.jpg |
Some people have to do some mild trimming for 31" to fit stock, some people dont, I had to tighten my torsion bars and take off my mud flaps(caught on a screw head).
I now have a 2.5 lift with add a leads on the rear, have not gotten my bigger tires yet tho, but I like the height, not too much and not too little... |
I definitely had to do the lift and some trimming to fit my 31s. I also got new rims with -6 backspacing that made them stick out just a little bit more. It seems everyone has a different experience with this but going from mine, I would get the lift and tires done at the same time if it's possible.

I can tell you from my experience, definetly do the lift first. I put that same size 31x10.5x15 on my blazer that had a 3 inch lift kit(im a 2wd) and they still rubbed and required fender trimming. If you end up doing tires first you may very well take chunks out of them... Ask me how i know 😆

4th for lift first
To fit 31's on mine, I had to put a few turns on the torsion bars, trim the front lower valance, and hammer in the bottom of the fenders in order to turn and reach full lock without rubbing. Granted this is also with aftermarket wheels that stick out about 1" from stock. With stock wheels spacing, most people run into clearance issues with the tire hitting the sway bar in the front and/or the frame in the rear at full steering lock. |
I would also lift it before going bigger tires. Either suspension or body lift. It will save you from trimming and save your new tires from getting tore up.

Thanks everyone! We ordered the tires and the lift kit and hopefully will start the lift on Friday afternoon.
Will probably start a vehicle build thread so ya'll can track the progress... |
had a 1991 with 3" body lift and some trimming with 33x9.50x15 BFG MT's

Thanks. Lift kit was supposed to arrive yesterday. Project starts this afternoon. Wheels and tires off to the mounting shop this morning in preparation for intalling, hopefully on Sunday - photos to follow...
