BFG or General Tire?

I've been looking for tire and rims for my 98, I;m looking into black steel wheels and some AT's. I've seen BFG's AT's and Ive seen General Tire's Grabber AT 2's. At tirerack.com, the grabbers are rated higher and are less expensive. Just looking for other opinions and insight. Thanks.

I'm considering the same choice. Unfortunately, I've got about 1500 miles left on these tires, and thats probably pushing it.. From what I've found, the Grabbers and the BFGs are essentially the same, although I'm sure it gets down to sidewall construction or something like that to account for the price difference.

i like my BFG's i have the long trail ones on right now my dad ever since he's had a suburban (20+ yrs) hes always had BFG's AT's on it and he loves em plus hes always been a fan of BFG's he had them on his camaros and el camino and corvette. along w/ pretty much every car he's ever owned never any problems what so ever. they last a long time and wear nicely. so i would stick w/ BFG's

my granddad was a regional dist. for BFG, so i grew up on these bad boys, and they have a monster of a sidewall. its how they look and sound (quieter in the cab) is what i'd look at, the rest of the differences are trivial at best.

Does anyone know how much 31in Grabbers cost from wal-mart? Right now they have 255/70s there for $95 a piece and I wanted to know if it would be worth it to get 31's instead of those or just get those. Thanks! And as for your question I would think the main difference between the BFG's and the generals is that your paying for the name.

You're paying for the name on the side..

Your paying for the name, the sidewall construction, and BFG's are made in the USA (instead of by the contenential tire company based in germany and I was not able to find out where they make the General Grabber AT2 tire, you should be able to find it on the sidewall or ask the tire shop).

When I bought my BFG AT's Pretty much it was between them and the Toyo Open Country At's and I chose american since the pricing was the same and the BFG was more agressive. I am very pleased and happy with tires and have not been let down and don't believe I will be. I have plowed thru snow up over the bumper with no problems in 2wd and 4wd.

Cooper, and Interco are the only two American owned and operated tire companies in the USA. The rest are owned by a foriegn company and may have a plant of two int eh USA.

Your getting what you pay for. All tires are Federal Mandated to be rated in at least three categories, read the side wall and compare the tires to the fed standards.

By teh way, dont waste your time or money at Wal-Mart. Find a tire shop with a Raod Force Balancer. We get people who bought Wal-Mart tires all the time that have balance problems.
Read this thread to save yourself some headaches.

I used to buy tires every other year, not any more. Now I buy good tires.

I just wanted to buy the tires from there we have a balancer at WITC I would use for mounting them.
