Changing tire size
I need to replace 3 tires on my S-10 '02 Blazer (4th tire already replaced a few months ago). I had decided to get Kumho SR21s (on recommendation from an S-10 truck owner). However, my local Discount Tire center says that 235-70s are not a size they keep in stock. They could get them quickly enough but it was suggested that I get the next larger size 235-75 not just because they had them readily available but because they were much cheaper. Is there anything I should consider with this change in tire size?
Although it is a 4WD, that is not a feature I would expect to use very often. However, I do live in an area with a lot of places for off-roading so I do want to be prepared for those occasions. We never have snow but there is a good possibility that I may be driving in it in more northern locations. Is this a good tire to suit those purposes? http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/findTireDetail.do?r=AZEINT|pc|85206&pc=33701&ar=70 &rd=15&cs=235 |
that tire looks like it will do very well with on road situations, but if you were to go offroad with it i would try and stay away from mud(unless you have buddies who can pull you out) as far as tire size is concerned i would strongly suggest keeping all 4 tires the same size otherwise youll run into problems.

Thank you, it is pretty dry here but I will be sure and avoid mud if I should see it. :)
I didn't mean to mix the tire sizes just trying to figure out if I should get 3 tires of the same size as my one good tire or get 4 new ones at the larger size. There is almost no difference in price. Is there any reason to not switch over to the 235-75s? |
I would go with the more common 235-75s and use the 235-70 as a spare.

Whatever you decide... stick with the same size tires... Talking to a friend who's a ford mechanic, (I know I know) someone with a crown vic had 3 tires larger than 1... that one wheel kept locking up, something with the ABS or TCS thinking the wheel was spinning... only problem is it'd lock up at 70mph.

whats the differnts in the 235-70 to the 235-75, is it taller or wider, or a little of both
|
the 75 is about .5" taller than the 70.

Thanks for the feedback and advice! I've got all new tires now (the Kumhos), so I'm riding much smoother and more secure.
